DStv subscribers in Nigeria will have four core packages to choose from when the company begins its latest subscription changes on November 5. The announced monthly prices are ₦6,000 for Starter, ₦11,000 for Select, ₦21,000 for Sports and ₦44,500 for Premium. MultiChoice presented the Nigerian offering at a Lagos media briefing on Tuesday, October 27.
The practical difference is the combination of entertainment and sport available at each level. Starter is the entry package, while Select adds a wider mix of films, series and children’s programming. Sports includes the entertainment carried on Select alongside an expanded sports offering. Premium remains the top Nigerian tier. These are monthly subscription prices; households should check any separate equipment, installation or additional-service charges before deciding what they can afford.
Check the programmes that matter to you
For football viewers, MultiChoice says Sports will carry every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match. Lower packages will offer selected fixtures through SuperSport KICKOFF, so access to some football should not be confused with access to every match. Premium adds competitions including Formula 1, MotoGP, major tennis and golf. Viewers choosing mainly for a particular competition should check its package before renewing.
The changes also cover the film and television lineup. MultiChoice announced refreshed movie offerings through M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends, alongside African and international entertainment. The company says it wants to provide newer films and reduce repetition. Those are its stated aims; subscribers will be able to judge the resulting schedules once the changes are operating.
What existing subscribers should expect
Existing customers should expect the transition to begin on November 5, rather than assume every account display will change immediately. DStv’s Nigeria announcement says migration will happen in phases and that an account may continue showing its previous package name while receiving new channels. At the briefing, executives also said customers with advance subscriptions would retain the duration they had already paid for.
Our practical advice is to save a screenshot of the current package, renewal date and account balance before the transition. Keep the payment receipt for any advance subscription. After the change begins, compare the account information with the channels actually available, and use DStv’s official support service to resolve any mismatch. This gives the customer a clear record of what needs checking.
Compare before the next payment
Before the next payment, make a short list of the programmes and competitions the household actually watches, then compare that list with the new Nigerian packages. Check the current renewal amount in the account before paying. A familiar package name or a broad promise of more content is less useful than knowing whether the programmes you want are included at a monthly cost you can sustain.
