Tunisia’s mass opposition trial reaches its final appeal

The Court of Cassation began hearing the last appeal of opposition figures convicted of plotting against the state.

Thirty-four defendants had received sentences of up to 45 years; lawyers and rights groups dispute the fairness and political independence of the process.

The hearing tests due process after the concentration of presidential power that began in 2021.
